When will legislation ban our cars?
I found this quote from Ansar Ali in an article about Caterham on Pistonheads:

Does he know anything we do not?

er, i think we all know thats the case.
think about it, if cars or motorbikes were invented now, do you think we'd be allowed to drive them? fill up a small metal box with explosive
liquid from a shop at the corner of the street? no way!
i think we're very lucky to still be allowed to do this. its quite hard to register kits in any other european country, i'm surprised we
still can here

Saying that America for all its faults is pretty lenient on custom cars, there is still a huge hot rod industry over there and some of the things they
car run on the road would have us nicked in no time
If they banned kit cars then folk would just modify existing old cars just as has been done for decades, especially those with separate chassis
Fame is when your old car is plastered all over the internet

i don't know who ansar ali is. but my understanding was that westfield have recently achieved TUV approval on the continent, thus allowing self
builds on the continent.
I'd like to see some statistics on injuries/ fatalities caused or involving these cars before anyone can suggest they should not be legal, and
as the numbers of these vehicles about is so small, its going to be a long time before they become perceived as "dangerous" to the public,
and therefore some political motivation to be seen to be doing something. The truth is the vast majority of these self built cars, require some level
of intelligence to build and pass the strict test criteria we have, and the majority of people building them are probably very careful with their
pride and joy...
just my opinion.

They’ve never been able to retrospectively impose rules on existing registered cars due to the problem with historic vehicles not being designed to
meet the current regulations.
As above motor bikes are just nuts safety wise but can you just imagine what would happen if the government tried to ban them, all hell would break
loose. London gridlocked with angry bikers , what fun that would be. Politicians are more bothered about getting votes than banning low volume cars,
so few people actually vote these days that even upsetting a smallish group could swing the vote come election time. Tbh it sounds like the goverment
is sick fed up with EU rules anyway.

MOT is becoming tighter from 2012 due to European legislation - wonder if IVA will also tighten up....

IMO the kit market/industry is smal enough to slip by any major future legislation changes, its not big enough to make any distinct impact on nation
statistics. besides, IVA is a nice lil earner for VOSA!

Not for a long time yet, when I was at JLR (Jaguar land Rover) one of the guys who did the Defender facelifts was laughing about how the Defender had
been failing Type Approval and all sorts of legal obstacles for years yet nobody bothered to stop them from making it.

If they're allowed to sell Chinese copies of European/Yank cars here that haven't even been entered for EuroNcap tests as they'd not
achieve even 1 star I'm not sure we have to worry that much! 
Either way, I see the price of Dutton v5s going up!
