Quick release steering wheel slop/play

I've always found my car to be a bit wondery<<<<, is that a word!? mainly in a straight like on a bumpy roads. always felt like i always had to steer it to keep it in a straight line.

i checked for bump steer with the laser on the disc trick and a straight line and it tracked pretty much inline.

now the quick release boss has always had a little play about 2mm on the splines. so for the first time i tried a quick fix to see if that was an issue. the only way i could eliminate the play temporarily was with a bit of masking tape on the splins jusy to take out the slop( but made sure it was properly seated)

and just a quick blat around the block it feels like a different car, hits bumps and now doesn't try and steer itself.

so anyone else have issues with slop on Q/R wheels.

need to think of a permanent fix now!?

Hi John,
mines the same. Problem is with the RD type QR
The one at (www.plays-kool.co.uk) works a lot better - no play at all
It is a bit dearer though

start saving..........

ps good to catch up last week

What size wheel do you use ? do you really need a removable wheel ?

Hey george

Was good to catch up and have a chat

I don't know how yours is but just putting some masking tape has made all the different to the handling!

tbh i only fitted the QR as security device for sva, so i might get a standard column and get a boss to use the OMP steering wheel... if thats possible

or save the pennies!

Jacko is a OMP D style, not to small can't remember the size

I was thinking of drilling and tapping the boss for a bolt that bears on the shaft with a hand nut that you could nip up to remove the play once in the car. Would have to un nip the bolt to remove the whel again

Lot more permanent then masking tape

Cheers

Fred, i did think about that for a more permanent fix, maybe with a rubber type washer so it doesn't put to much load on the bearings that hold the QR on, maybe with a wing nut
