Mk2 Escort brakes Q
What's the easiest way to upgrade the brakes on a Mk2 Escort based kit? Grooved discs and quality pads or maybe fit Sierra discs and calipers?
Don't want to go fancy and expensive just better and simple.

Just looked non on currently, ones that have been sold were a bit pricey, but vwill keep looking. Any other sensible sugestions?

Depends exactly what you mean by Escort brakes.
If as everybody assumes you mean Escort MK2 M16 calipers on a Locost style car all you need is good quality OEM spec pads and if you are not
using a servo a FIAT mastercylinder. The FIAT mastercylinder is a cheap mod.
Fitting hard racing brake pads and vented discs is a mistake if your brakes aren't even getting up to temperature, the usual problem is
excessively high pedal pressure due to using the the Escort/Cortina/Sierra mastercylinder with short low leverage pedals and without a servo. The
Fiat mastercylinder has a smaller bore which increases the hydraulic pressure without excessively high force being required on the pedal.
Also check the brake pads and caliper piston are working don't assume because the pistons went back to fit new pads they are working freely.

It is a really messy mod, they are even heavier than M16 calipers and don't really give much extra hydraulic area, if you really really want
vented discs just spacer the existing calipers but vented disc are of no advantage unless your brakes are fading due to overheating.

No idea, just got them going spare. The discs are for 4 bolt hubs, I could do a spot of measuring of the discs and hubs...

I would have thought that your existing brakes would be fine. Dont forget that a cortina is twice the weight of a seven car. They
will not get hot enough to warrant vented discs unless you are going to race it.
