Megasquirt Trigger Angle Setting ? - Help Please!!!

Hi Guys,

Any Megasqurt Guru`s out there?

I`m running MS2+ and Im using a 60-2 flywheel, with TDC sensor as seen in the picture below.

I have set the engine up to TDC on Cylinder 1 and the fifth "solid" tooth is aligned withthe sensor.

I have read the megamanuals and can`t seem to work out exactly what value I need to put in.....Megasquirt overload perphaps.

Is the first mising tooth, tooth 0, the second missing tooth number 1, resulting in me technically being aligned with tooth number 6?....although its actually number 7 ?

My engine rotates clockwise as I recall, but to be honest Im not certain which angle im measuring.

In MS tuner studio the trigger angle has to be less than 180?

360/60 = 6

(7teeth 6 gaps) x 6 = 36 Degrees?

What angle is it?

Is 36 degrees correct?

Any help would be most appreciated

Hi,
Use approx value, start engine, lock advance in software, use a strobo lamp to set correct angle value.

I get that mate but how do you work out the approximate value for trigger angle for the setup I described?

With the engine rotating in the normal direction...

Tooth #1 is the first tooth to pass the sensor after the missing tooth.


So set your engine at TDC, then count the number of GAPS to tooth#1 in the direction of rotation (clockwise here) and multiply by the angular size of the tooth.

60-2 wheels are 6 deg per tooth (360 deg / 60 teeth)

So by my reckoning you have 5 'teeths' after the gap therefore 5 x 6 =30 degrees

Forgot to say you will find this explanation in the MS Extra mega manual.

Thanks big v t.....

That makes perfect sense .... Especially when I overlooked a clockwise rotating engine is actually anti clockwise when viewing from the ring gear end.

Hi,

I recon you have 4 teeth after the gap so your angle will be 4 x 6 = 24, as per the MS2 trigger wheel manual.

Humm, i think its 4 teeth...copied from the MS2 manual (from your link)

Typical Vauxhall/Peugeot (and other Bosch) setup
60-2 setup is 6deg between teeth (360deg / 60 teeth = 6 deg)
Tooth number 20 lines up with sensor at TDC, so tooth 20 to 1 = 19 teeth
Therefore 19 teeth x 6deg = 114deg (Tooth #1 Angle)

It's the number of teeth FROM the the missing one/gap you need to count, so in the picture the VR sensor is lined up with tooth 5, which is 4 teeth from the gap.

4 x 6 = 24deg trigger angle.

Incidentally this will may cause your timing some issues. If your sensor is 24 deg BTDC, the CPU can only calculate and spark up to 24-(something due to calc overheads) degrees BTDC, limiting your timing, especially at high revs, to something like 20 degrees. Normal suggestion would be to have TA around 60 degrees.
