OT work computor problem
Lost printers! Wonderd if anyone may know of this problem, my work pc. win7 when I switched it on has lost all the printers which were installed, they
are on a network. If we try to reinstall them there is a message saying cant open add printer, local print spooler service not running restart spooler
or machine. This has been tried without any luck and the chap who looks after our system has tried various things but still no good there are no
viruses on the system or malware showing up. Any one seen this problem before? Thanks

have you started the printer spooler service?
if not click start, in the search box type services.msc and press return
find the printer spooler service in the list, right click, start?
is it fixed?

It'll be because your print spooler service isn't running. Have you updated or added any new print drivers recently. Bad drivers can
cause the spooler to crash.
Have a look in the event viewer and see if it tells you why the spooler is crashing.
Failing that, try updating the printer drivers with the latest windows 7 versions.

Thanks for the replies : the spooler is set at automatic, if you try to start the spooler it attempts to start then crashes the same happens when you
try to stop it. No new drivers have been installed recently

attempt to start the service again, taking note of approx time
click start, click control panel, click administrative tools and event viewer
look under the system heading and you should have some errors at the time you tried to start the spooler - what do they say (there maybe more than
one)

Not printing a PDF are you to an HP Printer?
There is an issue with older HP printers, PDF's and Windows 7! It'll crash the spooler nearly everytime. HP's advice is to use the
generic print driver but that's awful and you loose loads of functionality.
As stated though it will be a driver or something sitting in the spooler causing this crash even when you try and restart the server.
Try (if you have permission ) to delete the contents (not the folder but just the files in) the print spool folder.
Normally C:\Windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS
These are the pending print jobs. Once this is empty try restarting the spooler again. The spooler service must run to enable Windows to print. No
spooler.No printing!
Hope that helps

Seeing as it's a work computer you could do one sneaky trick (make sure no-one sees you!)
1. Get a hammer
2. Lightly tap the hammer all over the casing until it's in several pieces (often you'll need to replace "lightly" with
"heavily" )
3. Ask for a new one because someone else has broken yours

Interesting answer PDFs, there was a job that failed but to a Richo? printer I will investigate it in the morning hadn't been a problem before
though. The other answer is a good try but its a pretty new machine I kept refusing a new one as the old one was XP never had any problems with it but
I lost the argument in the end.
Many thanks
