Diff Oil Level

Another stoopid question if a may?! (couldn't find the answer on old threads)

Have just emptied my diff of oil. Upon re-filling it with oil. How do i know the fill level. Is it as soon as starts pi**ing out of the filler hole?

Am i right in thinking that i need approx 0.9 Ltr for my Sierra 7" LSD?

Cheers

Gary

If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

Was just filling my diff up today, the stated capacities are 0.8L for the 6.5" diffs and 0.9L for the 7". Not sure how accurate these are though because I had a litre bottle and nothing came out of the filler hole?!

Pete,

So, have you purchased some more oil to make sure it is up to level or do you think it will be ok with a litre in?

Cheers

Hi Gary,

No I've just left it, I used a stick (really technical) to check the level, it appears to be just below the bottom of the filler hole. The manual says it can be up to 1cm below the hole so I'm sure mine will be OK. I'll probably check it after I've run the car in on the road just to be on the safe side
