Erm... I Appear to Have Accidentally Bought a Z3!

It's happened again! Ebay came calling and I succumbed!

1999 Facelifted 2.8 (M52TU engine).

It's a Cat D insurance jobbie and on 108k miles, so it was dirt cheap. Needs a bonnet, bumper, offside headlight and offside door. No chassis damage, so it's all just 'bolt-on' repairs. Otherwise, it's pretty clean!

The plan is to get it in back in one-piece for the summer and then maybe fiddle with it over the winter (put your orders in now for Z3 spares! ).

But anyway... a Q for some of those that have fiddled with the M52 lump! I've read that the M52 engine has a restricted inlet manifold and that the better-breathing M50 one is a direct replacement. Does anyone know if the ECU needs to be tweaked to suit?

Cheers.

Always meant to get round to an STi, but never quite made it. I suspect I never will as the missus hates them.

Better run down in the z3 than my crusty Land Rover.

We will look so cool, especially if I wear my leather shorts.

You get a small benefit from fitting the 2.5 inlet manifold (and a tiny bit more again if you fit a big bore throttle body, not sure that bit's worth it though). I believe the thinking is that this benefits top-end at the expense of low-end power & torque (which makes the power delivery more fun in my experience), and that a remap will restore the low-end losses (I never got that far with mine). But you can certainly do it bit by bit.

Good buy, they don't need a remap, just the m50 intake mod and you're looking at 200bhp.

Makes a nice change from all the camp Mx5's around

I'm already slavering over LS1 and turbo installs on the Zed... all seems a bit silly though for a chassis that has a reputation for being a bit 'flexible' and a rear suspension nicked off a car introduced in 1982 (E30 3 Series).

I'd prefer you not to call it a Zed Zed's are the 240/260/280z made by Datsun/Nissan

I wouldn't worry about them being 'flexible' BMW have never made a bad handling car have they? The guy with the ls3 install is who i got my 3.2 engine off, it was a little funny that his old engine ended up traveling faster than his 10k+ls3 install!

Bonnets can be hard to come by for reasonable costs for those i've found. Looks nice though, not to heavy.
There is a modification, that I have done on E30's, that can be made to the inside rear trailing arm attachment that corrects camber if you go down the lowering route. It involves excentric (?) 5 series 'bolts to allow fine adjustment.

..Which was nice..
