Ford focus - power steering issue

Sorry, not locost related but I hope that someone can help.

Mate has 10 yr old ford focus, and when he is driving it he says that the steering wheel seems to weight up just as you begin to move the wheel, then the weighting goes and the the car turns.

it has only just started to happen, but before it goes to the garage, any ideas as to issue?

Cheers
Craig

Air in the system? Or, maybe a worn out pump or rack...

Thanks Coozer,

that narrows it down a bit, though he has said that there is no fluid loss.

I suspect perhaps nothing to do with power steering most likely a steering column universal joint seized.

Either seized uj (very common) or knackered balljoint could do it too. (or rack or pump or belt slip or or or!!!)
