Rusty Chassis
We have decided to tackle the rust that has been accumulating on the floorpan at the back. I just thought I'd share the horror
The car has been on the road since 2004 and never garaged

ooh, thats grim
always wondered if it was worth bolting on sacraficial zinc plates to help stop corrosion on steel, like they do on ships?
forget the scientific name for it. and i can't remember if it has the opposite effect on aluminium, but worth thinking about really

You live in Bradford on Sea right?
Was it painted or plastic-coated? Just curious.
Not noticed any on mine which had in places about 5 coats of paint but mine's been (damp!) garaged most of the time.
Cheers,
James

Presumably there was a damp-trap (and possably a paint holday) where the floor met the chassis which has allowed damp (inc road salt?) to get in and
say there a while. Loos ok where the sides wrap wround however?

The chassis was powdercoated, but the floor wasn't fully welded to the chassis, so through time any kind of flexing at the seam would have
seperated it allowing in water. I have no doubt that it would have been worse and more widespread if the different engines we had in didn't
leak oil
Just waiting for my brother to arrive and we're going to weld in a couple of large patches

OK, cut out some steel and welded some more in, used some stonechip over Zinc182 and should be good for a while longer
