Whats DVLA inspection all about??

so car passed IVA and now have applied for age related plates using v55/5. DVLA want to inspect car. seems a bit pointless when VOSA already done that.

what do they inspect??

IVA = Road worthness
DVLA = Identity check.

Slight question. I bought my zetec from a breaker and the receipt just says 'focus 2.0 litre zetec 2001 - 77,000 miles." It doesn't have the engine number on it. Will this cause a problem come registration time?

Not if it has the engine number on it at registration time.

Ah, so the receipt now has the engine number written on it! Must have been looking at the wrong place.

It's easily done. I couldn't even find some of my receipts, but someone suggested that if I looked in Microsoft Word on the PC I would find them. All you have to do to find them is type in all the details you need on the receipt and then press the 'print' button, the lost receipts then re-appear.

Works a treat!

I assume you still need the DVLA inspection for a 'Q'-plate? (which is what I will be getting)

Mine's on a Q and I was told DVLA dont inspect any more They just gave me my tax disc and authorisation to purchase numberplates, coz you need log book for plates and that was to follow after being printed at Swansea.

This was all Feb 2011

Correct.

Just a check of chassis and engine number both for the actual numbers being present and correct and a look at reciepts. They saw the size and disorganised nature of my file and opted not to look through, altough they'd had the major parts reciepts with the V55. Also I think the chat that goes on during this is checking out that you are a genuine amature builder and not someone building for profit. Practice varies from office to office; Some do thier own, some have the police come out and do it and some accept VOSAs word for it.

I took mine, she looked at the engine number, chassis number commented on how nice it was (it was brand new after all).

I showed all the major receipts and she gave me a new plate... I had a number on retention so she applied that, gave me the tax and I was on the road... for 4 weeks...

Thanks all very helpful. I certainly found some on word and also my file is very unorganised. Haha all major receipts were with v55 though.

Only a week to go and should be on the road!! Can't wait.
