Argon supply

Hi Guys,

For those of you that have a TIG, or are thinking of getting one, and need argon, Please can you have a look at whats going on at mig welding .co.uk forum.

I already use the "BOC Volkszone deal" for Mig gas and to me its a great deal for the amount I use.

They are trying to set one up for Argon now, so if anyone wants to support, please feel free.

BTW this is the deal ( as far as I know at the moment) for Argoshield Light

Quote:

Here's the details I received from BOC:

"Argoshield Light Size Y (bigger than an X)

Cylinder size (20 litre water capacity)
filled to 230 Bar Pressure
98cm x 20cm
40kg approx

4.8 m3 of gas (4800Litres)

will weld for approx 8 hours continuous at an average flow rate of 10 lpm

£ 24.48 + VAT per refill for gas
£ 34.15 + VAT rental for 1 year (refundable pro rata if cylinder is returned early)

total for 1st cylinder should be £ 70.35 all in (gas + 1 years rental)

with no other extra charges"

Following links around I found this offer for MIG gas which seems reasonable value at the hobbiest end - at least compared to the disposables.

http://www.boconline.co.uk/products/products_by_type/industrial_gases/shielding_gases/argoshield/2_litre_argoshield_light_filled_cylinder.asp

Anyone used one? They don't seem to do the "BOC Volkszone deal" for MIG gas any more according to the links.

It must be very recently as there are people getting the "volkszone" deal within the last two weeks???

If everybody could send an email then I'm sure we would all benefit from cheaper gas.

Cheers
Davie

Thanks for that. BOC said it finished back in 2009 on Volkszone itself.

^^^^^

I wasn't trying to be smart, sorry if it came over that way.

Have a look HERE for people still managing to get Argoshield light, rental seems to be about £43 per year and refill is £23

Cheers for that, may be ideal if I cant get the old volkszone deal. Ive sent a quick email and asked about both.

Ive had a boc acount for years but the rental on a Y size bottle is £100.20 this year and its just to much.

I have adamsgas at the moment for my Argon and on the face of it it looks less expensive....but.... its a smaller bottle, and the pressure is lower = less gas - also look at the transport costs if you dont live close.

The BOC 2l bottle looks not too bad at all of the occasional user...

There is a good speadsheet on that web site that looks at the costs... worth having a look... being a Scotsman I did!

Thanks for all the alternatives.

Please send an email to katie.anderson@boc.com with a couple of lines about how you would be interested in a deal like the "volszone deal" but for pure argon aimed at the hobby market.

It doesn't cost anything to send an email and who knows you may someday benefit y getting a bit of TIG welding done for free by a fellow LCB'er

Cheers
Davie

As above it's getting to the point where I can not do the little jobs for friends and family as I can't afford the gas.
