Risking some flames here but the closest is afaik Caterham. Building a Caterham would also be the manufacturer you'd be least likely to need to visit with problems/questions (having seen the build manual).

http://www.caterham.co.uk/assets/html/contact.html

Having said that with support from forums like this, being close to the manufacturer isn't as important as it used to be IMO.

Ian thanks, but they are way out of my price range. I would like to buy a built seven to start with that needs work but already been through the dreaded iva/sva .
had my heart pinned on an mk indy but have heard mixed reviews of late about bad deliveries and lack of help on smaller orders ect and wanted to see who is a little closer to home. thanks again ian.

As the chassis is similar, and the fury has a full body I am sure that Steve at Fury sports cars would be delighted to assist were you to build a 7 style car, he is an all round good bloke.

If you intend to buy a completed car, you will not deal with the manufacturer so any issues (late deliveries, etc) do not exist.

have just been looking at their website actually , and to be honest they have always been a favourite of mine.
only trouble is its hard to find one for less than 10k! maybe i should have taken up tennis or something lol
have you seen the busa rush that dax are trying to sell lately ? my god what a machine.
will be hoping to buy this winter on a budget of 5k so maybe on that budget i should just be happy to own any seven(except robin hood lol yuk!) thanks for your help though fella

although i want to buy built , thats mainly to avoid the iva. although i will still be changing the car to how i want it , hence deliveries and service being a big part of my reasearch. thanks for the reply though mate

Buying a built car, using it then rebuilding to your prefered spec' isn't abad idea. I'd get your self to Stoneleigh show on the 6/7th May for a good look at all the different cars. Speak to the owners of built cars as well as the manufacturers and work from there. If you miss Stoneleigh you won't get another chance to see so many cars untill next year.

Fury Sportscars have experience with a lot of other stuff as well as the Fury so could still be of help if you go the ready built route.

If you are budget constrained, and it sounds like you are, then the best value built kit in the seven mould would be the sylva striker and its derivatives.

Fury sportscars could help you later as they are a cousin of the Fury.

tbh you don't need factory backup on an IVA'd car, any changes you can do yourself or with other supplier support.

And that last chap is the guy you need to get to know... it will be more important to have knowledgable people nearby who have built cars, not necessarily the manufacturer of the chassis. I had neither, and it has been a real "challenge".

My advice is:
1. There is always more than one way to do things
2. Anything (yes, anything) can be made to work
3. Nothing is brainless bolt on. Everything needs fiddling (which is the fun part, although it doesn't seem like it at the time sometimes)

It's an incredible community on here, and I am sure you will have a great time building/modding/driving whatever you choose!

I was going to suggest GKD but beaten to it. I was looking into buying one in stages and the car seemed good to me (Apart from the weird dash board).

For buying a complete car, I believe there is a dealership near Brands Hatch that mainly deal in caterhams and westfeilds but they might have some other cars. Also my dad says there's a guy in Aylesford who deals in specialist cars which might be worth looking up.

I had a chat with Steve Lathrope at GKD at Detling. Really nice helpful chap, and as you mentioned £10k, you can get a complete kit and donor for that.

Agree about GKD, if it's five miles away then definitely pop down and chat to Peter. He's a nice bloke and will be happy to tell you more about his cars. I've got one, very pleased with it.

another vote for GKD, for 10k you could build an m3 engined car. Great bang for ££, they also handle pretty nice too.
