This is something I have been thinking about. If I kill my rather old zx9 engine I am tempted to go to cec and an mx5 engine and box. The thing I am not clear on is the difference in the tunnel size, if any, between the bec chassis and cec prepared chassis. Mines a 2007 chassis.

Can anyone advise? Is the tunnel wider for cec?

Sick with bec.
I would say too many changes so might be better to sell car and buy a cec

But don't do it

Be far easier to trade for a CEC than swop as a minmum theres the cost of the engine box, exaust prop and wiring / ecu even for a decent Zetec engine you will be looking at £700, plus then the Box £50 second hand which would ideally need reconditioning, exhaust system £400- £500 plus, prop £150 ECU wnywhere from £250 to 1200engine mounts £50 then the fitting.

328i engine/box/ecu £400 tops, exhaust, £600. Thats 220ish bhp for £1k. I'm not sure how much you'd get for your lawn mower engine? I've no idea on the shape of the Mk chassis either? A bmw gearbox is short/ a little wide but very light. Will your sierra diff take the torque ok?

It sounds a bit expensive, but a great project! I hear people have been using car engines for a few years now and have proven to be quite reliable, if not at the edge of technology for the most part.
