Which Engine Would You Choose?

Due to financial restrictions I'm unable to afford the engine I really want (Turbo Hayabusa), so I have to use one of the engines I already have for the moment

which are:

ZZR1100 d3
Honda Blackbird on Carbs
ZX9r E series

It's for a mid engined classic mini which I estimate will be about 550kgs excluding driver, all are very low mileage, given my sad financial position which would you use?

Cheers
David

The zzr1100 engine is a good engine when it works. I want that route because I got one very cheap. Getting the gaskets are not cheap though and the gearboxes on the d have 3rd gear issues.

I will be using mine until it does then getting a zx9r

Good thing with the zzr1100 engines are if they die you buy a new one and put it in.

Pretty disposable as the costs of parts out weighs the second hand value of the engine.

I have a d6 zzr1100

blackbird motor really needs a dry sump or (hopefully cos that's what I'm doing) an accusump and windage plate or it will eat no3 main bearing in short order.

Jossey

I know about about second gear problems on the C series ZZR1100, not heard of it on the D series?

Mookaloid

I'm aware of No3 mains problems, I have a westfield baffle plate and will if the engine is used big wing the sump like the escort sumps

The engine used will be in the same orientation as they were originally used in the bikes, I'm hoping this will lessen any oil surge problems

I have just got rid of a ZX9r engine that was a hoot to drive, it was in the Indy for 3 years and I never had an issue with it, I just stuck it in connected it up and of I went. Best thing I have done kitcar wise , so far.

I run a zx9r c engine, got told that the gearboxes are weak, 2 yrs and 3000 miles later it hasn't missed a beat. Just bought a z1000 barrel and piston set which fits straight on, that's my job for over the winter. I've heard that the blackbird motor can twist, the engine casing is then a write-off, i believe that and the fact they have to be dry sumped is why they have become unpopular.

If i was doing it again i would be after a zx12r, same power as busa but half the price.

ZZR1100 d3
Honda Blackbird on Carbs
ZX9r E series

These are the engines I have a choice of, buying another engine of any sort is currently out of the question. So back to the original question

I would buy the zx9r I think it's the 3rd gear on the d model if I remember rightly.

2nd on c model. An the oil problem causing I to spit a leg out.

Good luck.
