mk3 MX5 tyres

I've never really looked at buying quality tyres for anything other than the kit car or motorbikes before, so please excuse my ignorance of 'mainstream' rubber

I'm looking for 4 new tyres for a mk3 MX5 - 205-50-16

I'd like good quality tyres that are capable in all seasons (I already have 8 wheels stacked up for the fury, no room for an extra set for the Mazda). So not really interested in out and out sports or winter tyres - just a good 'all-rounder'

thoughts?

Cheers
Andy

Mk 3 MX5 should be 17" 205/45x17" The original fit Michelin's were the best but are no longer made/available in europe Current fit is Bridgestone RE040 or RE040a can't remember which off hand. Continental sport contact and pirelli P zero nero's are also very good on the 5 but make sure the suspension geometry is properly set up on a laser alignment rig.

or 205/50/16 - depends if you bought the sporty model or not

Thnx for the info do you know which of the above tyres are best all year tyres? (as opposed to outright sporty grip)

I'd be going for Conti SportContact 3s or Michelin Pilot Sport 3s. Both similar tyres, very good all round performers. Better in the cold and wet than most all-season tyres and brilliant in the dry.

Not cheap though (maybe £130 a corner fitted?).

All the makes I quoted are all years round use giving acceptable life/mileage, wet grip and ride and handling performance, they arn't eco tyres or energy savers as you want the car to stay on the road! nut they are good all rounders and offer good levels of 'sporty' grip. This however is enhanced with good geometry settings.
