Build a Dalek - next project perhaps

i was going to make a lifesize model of terminator once.
I have this situation in my head of me sitting in a pub with the model sitting with fixed expression next to me and i'm introducing it to some
people
"hi i'm liam, and this is my mate, terminator"
i can't think about this too much it makes my sides split i apologise if you think i'm nuts but its just one of those things which makes
me laugh

I'll be back.
My grandkids were messing about a few weeks back when it was warm and we had the fan on. They were putting their faces next to the wire and talking.
Try it in a high voice saying "Exterminate", you'll see what I mean.

Full size Dalek prop with fully functional voice modulator unit.
Celebrate the return of Doctor Who with your own pet Dalek.
Fully operational Dalek replica, made from fibreglass, wood and metal. The voice unit is self-contained, mounted to the Dalek's mid-section and
is complete with microphone, amp, speaker and modulator. All appendages are moveable and the lights flash.
Here's some more info about the construcion of my lovely Dalek, moving from top to bottom: Dome: GRP (fibreglass). Neck: MDF and alloy mesh.
Shoulders: MDF, ply, GRP (fibreglass), and machine cut aluminium. Skirt: GRP with 18mm ply reinforcement around fender. Skirt balls: all individually
moulded in GRP. Limbs: from Steel tubing and also some plastic down-pipe (for the sink plunger arm). Rolls on 3x4" castors, fully ball-raced.
Fitted with a seat, limbs and fully moveable eyepiece. Includes Voice modulator, amp and speaker, so you can do the scary voice!
This Dalek was built as closely as possible to the original specs and measurements taken from a surviving Shawcraft original (Shawcraft is the name of
the company which built Daleks for the BBC until the early 70s). This particular Dalek is modelled on the Daleks apppearing from 1973 - 1983.
It breaks into 5 parts for easy transport and will, if dissassembled, fit through a normal 30 inch doorway.
Although I make no claim that the Dalek is in any way an original prop, it is a superb replica, and unlike some Daleks, it is a fully operational and
useable prop, not just a full size model. There is a seat to sit on inside and you use your legs to propel yourself forward, as the dalek is on wheels
(it’s great fun!). You operate the arms with your hands and you can also control the lights flashing on and off etc, and of course produce the
classic dalek voice by speaking into the microphone.
My Dalek really is wonderful and would be a pleasure for anyone to own.

Daleks were grey not orange.
They were on our black and white telly anyway.

I worked with a guy in BT years ago who had a fully dressed life size manican? He would dress it in the morning and sit it on the passenger seat of
his van. Everyday he would dress in diffirent clothes. mad

I bet he keeps his parents in a box in the attic and dresses in his mothers clothes to entertain guests. Don't go in the shower.

I'm speachless...
I am currently halfway through a Dalek build using those very same plans.
Plus I have modified a mobility scooter chassis so I have full power and a 20 mile excursion range
On board 160W sound system for playing the Dr Who theme as I trundle around and a ring modulator for authentic Dalek rantings about extermination
etc.
Also looking at having a two way radio and 2 channel remote for firing of the gun eyestalk lighting,
Getting a lot of pleasure from building something in wood rather than steel. Amazed that it should appear on this forum.
I've seen them go for £1400 on ebay without power systems installed

I built a Borg cosume a few years ago, complete with hologram eyepiece and flashing LED's in the skull and brestplate, Star Trek is good.

£1400 maybe not so pointless.. however convincing her indoors that building one is worth while could be tricky (took ages to convince her that
building a car was a sane and sensible thing to do !!)

I can clearly remeber being really scared of the Daleks and Cybermen and hiding behind the sofa! Was only last year as well
I want a sonic-screwdriver like Dr Who had, only Machine Mart claim to have never heard of them...
