Show me you fuel set ups...

Im in the process of fitting a duratec to my westfield. (was a pinto on twin 45's before hand.)
Just wanted to look how everyone else has done their fuel set ups...
Using swirl pots or not, twin pumps? which fuel filters and high pressure fuel lines?

Is there anywhere which sells complete carb to EFI kits which are ok?

Thanks Mike

Hi Mike,

I have used a tank with an inbuilt sump and internal baffles removing the need for swirl pot.

I have one HP pump via a LP filter from tank.

I have 10mm diameter copper flow and return pipework to/from fuel rail.

Have a look at ATpower shop.co.uk they have different kits on there,
I have one of their fuel rails

You can safely make the return line diameter one size smaller than the feed, the smaller the bore of pipe the easier it is to work with.

When i changed mine form carbs to tb's i used the old 8mm feed to the carbs as the return line and just fitted a new 10mm as the feed to the rail.

Fitting a swirl pot or not really depends on the tank design/pickup. An in tank pump in a sump is no different to pick up pipe in a sump/no swirl pot/external pump.

Can I fit LP fuel pump (bike carbs) in engine bay or should it be mounted near fuel tank ?

It doesn't really matter where you put the pump in a simple low pressure/single pump set up.

The work that the pump has to do is governed by the distance between the fuel tank and the carburettor. Hence the pump can be anywhere inbetween.

Best way to make life easier for the pump is to make sure the fuel pipes in and out are big enough to minimise the pressure drop from the pump to the carburettor.

Good to know

I plan to use 8mm copper lines - should be sufficient... and fit OEM Kawasaki fuel pump in engine bay (one wire less to rear of car)

When I went carbs -> EFI I left the old LP pump in place. It now feeds a swirl pot which feeds a HP pump and filter. All those bits are in the engine bay. Fuel rail returns to the swirl pot, and the overflow of the swirl pot goes back to the main tank.

I put mine in the convenient space by the tank, would work as well in engine bay(on bottom rail?)
I used multi core cable, so had spare wires running to back of car

It'll work at either end but pumps prefer to pump. The clue is in the name, otherwise it'd be called a "suck". When sucking the presure drop in the feed line can cause bubbles to form; If you put a cheap plastic filter in the feed line before an engine mounted pump you'll often see them.

Cheap LP pump feeds swirl pot made from 2" tube with capped ends, then HP pump to filter then to TB,s return back to swirl, swirl has a Tap off the top which returns back to tank.
