Buying a car from an individual trader - V5 question

I have found a car from an individual trader. Everything appears good, and HPI check is fully clear. I have paid a small deposit for the car and am due to pick up tomorrow. I just want to check with you guys and gals the following however: (just to be sure!)

The V5 has the previous owners address on it as the registered keeper. (ie not the seller / traders name and address) The seller has had the car for 1 month, and has sent the yellow portion (section 9 I think) to the DVLA. So, other than a receipt of purchase, the seller has no written evidence that the car is his to sell.

I have read on line that this is normal, (to avoid the car clocking up additional owners on its record), but want to check with the locost combined experience to be sure. Its just that I would expect to see the name of the seller on the log book / V5.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Its a 2005 vauxhall astra btw! I needed to get something to keep the Signum and the red top in the F27 company!

Thanks in advance.

Nothing untoward there. Traders dont end up on the v5. Equally, the v5 doesnt prove anyone owns the car anyway, so having his name on it is no benefit.

Beware! Bourettes is binfectious.

I bought mine like that no problem, V5 came back OK with the girl he got it off on the log book.

Year on I now have letter from trading standards asking about the circumstances I bought the car.. turns out the trader was dodgy!

Still, nowt to worry about, as long as its HPI clear, no finance and isnt nicked you will be OK.

Yep, pretty much standard for traders. To be honest, the DVLA are so incompetent that even if they tried to follow the exact rules, they'd never get the V5 back in time. A trader having a car on their forecourt for six to eight weeks is doing something wrong!

Just check the V5 eventually catches up with you in a couple of months. As Joel says, the V5 doesn't dictate ownership anyway, I'm fairly sure it actually says so on the front page.
