Anyone removed an alternator from an 06 corolla?

Hi there i have a mate thats trying to change the alternator on their 2006 corolla, they have got it removed from the engine but can work out how to get it out the engine bay, it has to go out the bottom as theres definatley not enough room out the top, however it would seem the driveshaft may have to be removed? Anyone ever removed the alternator that could offer a suggestion?
Cheers Greg

What engine is in it? As the vvti's have them on the top in front of the engine.

Yes I understood your post but was trying to think what engine has the alternator at the back. As I said the vvti are usually at the top front. Is it a diesel?
