Extending a wire that has a shield on it from lamda sensor

Hi - I need to extend the wires for the lamda sensor on my F27 Red Top. I cut them last night to realize that one of them has a sort of wire shield surrounding it.

I need to extend it and cutting open the whole loom to replace the whole length is (ideally) really not an option.

Whats the best way of extending?

I have read that you can solder the outer shield wire as an extension?

Also, any suggestions of where I might get a suitable piece to extend with?

Thanks as always

Matt
