the ultimate LOWcost car transporter!!

For sale:

The ultimate LOWcost car transporter!

I bought this 2002 citroen relay chassis cab with milk float buck fitted from ebay around 3 months ago with the sole intention of modifying it to carry my car and using it for a trip to Spa Francorchamps in June.

The main advantage of this set up is that anyone can drive it on a full car 3.5T licence as even with my 560kg car on the back the gross weight is only about 2400kg

Engine is a 2.2 turbo diesel with a 5 speed manual box. The engine pulls very strong, gearbox is fine. 65mph is obtainable. Unfortunately speedo does not work and has not done for some time as mileage reads 47k, the guy I bought the van from seemed to think the true mileage was close to double that, which given the excellent condition of the van overall I am inclined to think is reasonably accurate. Only 3 former keepers.

Once I got the van back home and satisfied myself that all was sound, gave the bed a coat of paint and I set about working out how I was going to get my very, very low kitcar onto it. I eventually settled on a solution that involves a pair of folding aluminium ATV ramps (rated for 650kg), and a pair of drive-on ramps for the front of the van. I run my sump at 45mm from the tarmac so if I can get my car on any of you should be able to!!

This works very well, and once on the car nicely fits with no overhang at the rear and comfortably below the lightweight fibreglass roof of the milkfloat buck. There is a useful additional working light above the bed wired into a switch on the dash.

The cab has three seats, cassette player, driver’s seat has some wear (don’t they all?). Tyres are excellent – good 6-7mm all round! Tax until December, MOT until November.

The van will be available as soon as I get back on 20th June as unfortunately I have nowhere to keep it long term and the plan was always to sell it on here or ebay

Price: I really want £1500 back on this.

However I would do a deal on my Stuart Taylor and the transporter together for £8750! You could drive away the lot in one go as I would throw in all the necessary ramps & ratchet straps.

(I’m only selling up as next year I want to start a Porsche 911 project)
