09 Civic

Hi all,

Just spotted I have a small split in the drivers side outer driveshaft gator. Cars in for MOT and service on the 22nd. How much do you think Honda will charge to fit a new one while its in?

Thanks Kev

Iirc the gaiter itself is £20-40, although I have heard of some that come with a split down them (for fitting) and you glue it together... maybe worth just glueing if it's a small split?

This might be one of those occasions where careful cleaning and application of black PU adhesive may be worth a try. At best though it will probs only be a temp repair until you can locate a specialist that can replace it for less cost than the Honda Dealer. i dont think i would rely on the repair for the long term, and i certainly wouldnt want to be replacing a worn out hub when the gaiter is a lot cheaper. Might buy you some time to get it through the MOT.

Even a small hole lets water and grit in can wreck a CV jointin a 100 miles.
Split glue together boots are a complete waste of time.

A stretch boot is less than £10 the proper pneumatic tool to fit is £80 which you can sell afterwards fitting on a Honda is easy .
It can be done with a £7.00 nylon cone but it ain't worth the hassle.
