Anyone else using Sketchup?
Guys,
Recently been getting into sketchup - what a great piece of software!
Really powerfull for what it is.
Only done basic stuff like knocking up some plans for a downstairs WC in my parents house:
Some of the models available in the warehouse are phenominal!
Anyone here us it for component drawings etc?

I tried but ended up drawing stuff that couldn't exist in real life

I've had a few goes at it, but I just don't like it 
I think I'm just too used to old AutoCAD, Rhino and Tekla....

I use it, it's okay, but for engineering drawings it has a lot of quirks when it comes to trying to copy and rotate stuff, always end up
spending an hour fixing the models after. DoubleCAD is pretty good too for that stuff though.

Yes, it's good up to a point, but there's a limit to the complexity it handles gracefully after which you wish you'd used something
more powerful - parametric modelling being the biggest lack in my opinion.
Perfect for sketching in 3d - things like bathrooms and bedrooms work well.
Though I have used it for sketching out chassis plans as it's quick to get a feel for things.

My attempts have also been quite Escher-esque. Although having said that, when we had our extension done, parts of the architects plans were what you
might consider 'ignorant of physics'.
It's a brilliant product if you consider its price though. I do enjoy it when you can get more than half the functionality of the big software
but in a freebie.

Fell in love with SU quite a few yrs back. And some rendering software and it gets even more impressive.

I've used it a lot, done several large 6 bedroom houses on it right down to the light switches all from the orginal construction drawings plus
the gardens and car ports. Great software and handles huge models very well as it seems to load only what it needs to generate the image. It
doesn't handle curves to well but I'm still using just the free version. Very good for learning how to manipulate 3D objects, I've
shown it to actual draughtmen who have been very impressed with the speed models can be put together, it's far faster than solid works tbh
Have a go with sketchy physics which is a free add on, it's huge fun but needs a decent computer to run well. You can with that make working
machines or knock down buildings etc

I use Sketchup alot for work, as Loggyboy said, if you use render programme you can really get some good results

There's some seriously good work there guys!
Had a bit more of a play and knocked this up (G10 style watch caes):
Not finished yet - got to get the shape of the lugs and crown guard right.
