Painted at last! Cadbury's Purple!

Finally got my Meerkat RV8 painted...

http://www.meerkats.uk.com/meerkat-rv8-build/2013/7/28/post-paint-pics

Still not 100% happy with the bonnet bulge but it's a vast improvement on what it was like before. I also changed the diff to a 3.36 ratio in place of the 3.92 ratio before and that makes a big difference to the drivability of the V8. Previously 1st gear was a complete waste of time, even in the dry but now I can use all the gears. 3rd gear is pretty handy as it pulls beyond 80 MPH now.

The diff change was a bit of a chore as I had to change the output shafts from 108mm to 100mm from the old diff. I also had a catalogue of challenges along the way which I won't go into here. Let's just say my hands are tingling from the hours of hard work and brisk scrubbing they needed afterwards!

Good work!
I think the colour really suits it- was it done by yourself?

Mark.

Yes I did it myself using good old cellulose paint plus a few hours of flatting and cutting and polishing.

You need the Glass and milk

with the tag line changing from

"Glass and 1/2 of milk in every Bar"
to
"Galon and 1/2 in every Mile !!"

Thanks for all the nice comments guys, much appreciated.

As for where I got the cellulose paint, I think it was this ebay seller: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/cadbury-purple-CELLULOSE-GLOSS-1L-CAR-PAINT-COLOUR-/260578588015
Obviously there are better paint technologies available these days but I've used celly many times before and know what I'm doing with it better than other options. You just need a good supply of 1200 grade wet and dry and some cutting compound and finally some wax and you can usually get a decent finish. It does take time though...

As for you Agriv8, I'll have you know I averaged 28.6 MPG on a 140 mile round trip in my car and that was before I fitted the 3.36:1 diff. On the other hand it was also one of my first road trips in the car after SVA and was before I learned to trust my own construction work properly so I might have been being gentle on the throttle...

I should mention, the push to get the car finished was because I was planning to sell it to help pay for a better road car (BMW 530i M Sport '09 or '59 plate) but having spent some time with the car again and done some driving, I'm not sure I'll be able to go through with the sale! More on that another time perhaps if I do go ahead with it. In the meantime if anyone wants to make a sensible offer then feel free to PM or email me.

Cheers again,
Craig.

You're still allowed to use it for restored vehicles, classics (and I believe agricultural vehicles). The're not supposed to sell it for accident repairs/refinishing which is 99% of the market so for regular suppliers it's probably not worth the effort.

Ouch! I might need to leave mine up on axle stands for a while to rival that.

I presume you meant MPG not MPH by the way
