Thinking of selling the R4 - help me price!

Seriously thinking of selling the Warner R4 to continue funding the next prototype. Trouble is I have zero idea where to price it!

Hoping some people could give an idea of where it might be, I fully realise it's all about finding that right buyer as 90% of people will want to pay half what it's worth! But would be nice to find a place to start!

You know someone on the forum is going to offer you peanuts.

So might as well be me, take a grand for it?

Seriously though, I would suggest £6-7k ? Maybe put it up for £7.5k.

Way more than that! Look at what sort of prices Atoms are going for :-

£10-12k would be fair IMO

Depends on how quick you want to sell. For some the uniqueness will make it less valuable, and for others more.

I would say it must be worth £10-15k.

In my experience folk on a close-knit forum like this who have no real interest in buying a car will generally give over-inflated figures to the question you have posed.

You already have a comparison to Atom residuals, but to me that's an absolute irrelevence as it's not an Atom - it's a home-build vehicle that looks vaguely like an Atom. It won't fetch a price anywhere near what they do.

To get a figure, I would tot-up what the car has cost you in materials and equipment, and then throw a couple of grand on top. The market will ultmately decide if that's too high and force you to lower it over time.

For what it's worth, I would agree with Fesycresy and suggest a price around £7k.

I should add that I've followed your build and your car appears to be of a paricularly high standard. It's just such a difficult one to guage as there's no natural comparison for scratch-build exo cars.

Best of luck with the sale... I might be interested myself (depending on where you price it !).

Wasn't there a red one, virtually identical to yours?

Didn't a guy on this forum buy it?

Yes someone did build something VERY similar, it wasn't anything to do with me - so I guess he used photos from my build log to do so...

Its one of my favourite scratch built cars on here. From memory did it have an air cooled gixer motor ? I see this as the downfall when people are comparing it to an atom or even a well speced 7.

I see it at 6~7k

I still think there would be a real market for a quality set of plans.

I suppose the other stigma is the Q plate, whilst most in the know would appreciate its benefits, there are others who would feel it looks less 'prototype one off' and more 'shed built kit car one off'. I still hold by my £10k value. The 6-7k is a good quality '7' price, but they are '2 a penny' compared to this.

Its also the age old addage, its worth what someone is willing to pay, someone who was thinking of a atom, ktm, etc but wanted to keep prices realistc, but also didnt want the run of the mill 7 track car, would be right up for this car.

Against the flow, £5000 tops,

Nitrams car sat around for ages and it even had clever air suspension for speed humps etc, he started off wanting a lot that gradually reduced, when sold the next person advertised it a few months later on for even less if my memory serves me well.

To be fair Nitram38s car wasnt half as pretty as the Warner. Which goes along way for a one off, you want peoples jaws to drop, not their stomachs.

Nah no photos from the build log, one pic took at a show from the front with you leaning into it and he though 'I like that but with a different rear', then he just made it, took 4 months from stringing out to number plates.

It's mine now, I paid a lot for it, but its very good and professionally built by a guy who's been building racing cars for a long time, he's sent a lot of rwd msa'd Bec 205s around the place and lots to Ireland, and is revered in the bike world for his custom trikes/chops so I guess it depends on its providence, or rather it did to me.

Incidentally mines going for sale later this year, for lots.

If it's built like your scrap heap challenge stuff 50p having seen it in the flesh I would say somewhere around 7-8k if you can find the right buyer. 6k if you just want rid quick.

The extremely well documented build and supporting website should go a long way towards getting the sort of price a car like this deserves. Things tend to get pretty much what they're worth on ebay as long as they're well represented. I would suggest a long auction with a safe reserve and an ambitious 'buy it now' you might be pleasantly surprised what you get on the open market.

Set a decent reserve say 6.5k and let the ebay punters decide. Great build hope you get what it's worth.

I can't speak for the R4 as I have never seen it in the flesh but I have owned Stott's red ASBO for a few years now and the yellow ASBO 2 has been on eBay at £14-15k, though has yet to sell. I know what I paid for mine (less than the yellow one!) and have had it valued at more than I paid for it. However, like all these types of cars it's only worth what someone will pay for it on the day.

My car is very well known and well looked after, the build quality is A1 top of the class and although it couldn't be put in writing a certain kit car magazine editor did say it was quote 'the best exo-skeletal car he had ever driven' high praise when you consider Atoms exist!!

I am fully confident I will get my money back when the time comes (allowing for the fact it will be older of course) in fact I get asked at least once a month will I sell it to so-and-so!
