Zetec (Silvertop) Dipstick Routing

Just replaced my crank case breather from the small early Zetec one to the more standard (larger) one. Problem....cant route the dipstick tube in the old place. Tried bending it so it avoids the breather and manifold but I've ended up kinking it and now the stick wont go down!

So I need to get another tube before the weekend (MOT & Goodwood!)

Can someone please tell me which tube to use and where to anchor it and the top?

There are three types.

One sits to the left by pot one. Another sits in the middle and another sits by pot one but stands of the block along way.

I cant remember which is which. there is an old thread some where that may still have photos.

Being hard toe get I fetched a dozen from the scrapie to sell on but I ended up giving most of them away.

I need one desperately....The one before anchored in the middle just under the cam cover. I need one that routes to the front of the block (Is that pot 1?)

Sorry like ive put in the post above its free but I just can not post it. My job is seasonal and I wont see an open post office now until spring.

Looking at the photo its front mounting and has the dip.

You could have saved the bother by blanking the bottom breather.

Isnt that the mid mounting dipstick? That's where my old one went.

I trawled over LOADS of forums with regard to whether I could blank the breather off and came to the conclusion that I shouldnt! Oh well!

Edited to say : Looked closer and it is different isn't it! Derrrr!

The pcv valve in the old unit only opens under vacuum from the oem inlet manifold. So unless you have changed the valve it wont do anything any way.

I think warren has two of the different types there, the one on the box is the same as my spare and was mounted to the front (cambelt end) on my 1800 zetec as in my archive.

My 2 litre zetec pick up is now as the block pick above.

Anyway i'll get mrs bob to pop it in the post tomorow, just glad i could help.

The second pic is an st170 ie black top and that pic is just to show the breather blanking plate.

just check the length of the dip as they vary.

So, to attach I need a bolt extended out of the block with a nut behind the dipstick tube bracket or do I make up a special bracket?

Also.... Should there be an 'o' ring where the tube inserts into the sump hole?

I normally mix up a little araldite to fit the tube into the block, seems to work for me on the last 3 engines.

Good shout, I've got some metal glue.

Will the dipstick be the same level? I was presuming it would, I just thought the tube was the same length just bent to the left rather than the right.

There should be an O ring in the block and the tubes can be a different length, hence I sad check the length of the dip.
