High Level Brake Light
I heard the abs-death noise behind me yesterday as some prick in a Golf wasn't concentrating coming up to some traffic lights and nearly hit
me.
A high level light probably wouldn't be such a bad idea.
Does anyone run a high-level / third brake light on their kits?

I'm about to fit an FIA round rain light as a high level brake light for that very reason!
I recon hung under the top of the roll bar.

Do you mean something like this linky ?
Deffo worth fitting as when it's mounted to the roll-over bar it's directly in line of sight for the numpty behind.

I fitted the below, from a pug 206, used it as fog light on SVA, then made it into a 3rd brake light once passed

I want to do this but to look good the cabling needs to run inside the tube. That's got to be awkward. I was also trying to think of a method
of painting led strip black but leaving the lights unpainted.

I have one. Left it off for SVA but finally fitted it a couple of years ago.
I can't remember where it was made but they were sold by quite a few of the usual suspects at kit car shows. It's about 7mm thick and
25-30cm long. About £30 a few years ago.
I screwed it to the back of the roll bar with the supplied self-tappers (it has sticky foam pads supplied as well) and I fed the lead through a small
hole in the roll bar and out through a 10mm hole in the centre of the baseplate.
Looks great and would advise anyone to fit one.

I fitted one yesterday. The majority of it is black, with the red strip only wide enough for the LEDs. I drilled and tapped the mounts to the
underside of the roll-bar and ran the wire inside. I managed to feed it into a small hole and push it through until the end reached a 9mm hole where I
wanted it to come out and then just fished it out - 9mm was the smallest that I figured I'd be able to fish through. It took about 15 minutes in
total. I've yet to connect it up, just 'cos I've been getting on with re-doing the bathroom at the moment.

This is the one I fitted to my cage. It's one of the super bright 50 LED types with a bracket bought from e-bay then modified to suit. Bloody
bright......you'd do well not to see it (although photo could be better but it's all I had).

Wow some really good ideas here. Can't decide whether to go for a strip or the race-style round ones.

Personally I prefer the strip one as it blends into the roll-bar better - arguably looks less like an add-on.
Rather than feed the cable through the bar I surface ran black, flat, twin cable along the underside of the bar and used double sided foam trim tape
and 2mm black zip-ties.

I used a strip, bolts under the rollbar and is quite discrete until it lights up  . Not a great pic unfortunately.
I was worried about not being able to fish the wire out if I ran it inside the rollbar, without drilling a large hole, so I ran it inside some thin
sleeving and bonded it to the underside of the rollbar. Turns out that lots of people have managed to run wires inside the bar so I was obviously
worrying unduly. That said, it's actually barely noticable where it is so I'll probably not bother moving it. Definately worth having
IMO, the high level one is still only about the same height as a tin-top's ordinary brake lights...

Mine is one of these but it's clear coloured with clear end caps.

I think a high level brake light is a necessity. I used one of these:-
12V - 24V Rear LED Brake / Stop Light / Lamp Truck Trailer Recovery Car
It cost £14.00 delivered. It's quite narrow and fits the rollbar without leaving too big a gap along the top and bottom edges. Pictures not
brilliant but you can just make it out at the top.
 
Rear
The cable was threaded through the rollbar from the bottom and hooked with a length of welding wire. Was dreading this bit but not that difficult to
do really.

I added a strip led light under my rear panel, this also doubles up as a fog light for the MOT (passed twice)
picky is in my photos, as on my phone and cant add pictures
But to add to the lights, ive used LED rear lights and brake lights, and these are MUCH brighter than the original lucas units
I would like to add, that so far, ive always been seen from behind, its from the front ive had twits pull out in front of me with about 20 feet
between us, so ive added front white leds as well

Hi
I would definitely consider front lights as well after nearly having a head on with an overtaking Audi who hadnt checked the dip i was in properly.
Our cars are so low that people doing cross checks on the road cant see us above hedgerows verges etc.

Any better pics of the bracket etc? Just bought 2 of these (I'm all about symmetry) and want to see how yours is mounted please.
