Tyres for 4 1/2" wheels

What is the 'correct' size tyre for a 4 1/2" wide wheel rim? I would guess a 155 or a 165 but I may be wrong. I put correct in inverted commas because I think there is a range of possible tyres for each wheel rim size. Thanks

145 to 165 would be about the right width .

Any bigger than 165 will roll around on the rim.
Imps ran 155/80x12 as standard which is the ideal size.
Istr 165x12 was a Datsun size which is probably made of unobtainium these days.v

Thanks for the replies.
It looks like 155 are ideal then. They will go on 14" or 15" diameter wheels. It's a loose 'replica' of a Lotus 7 series 1 or a Lotus Six.

If you like to PM me, I can put you in touch with someone in South London who built a Lotus 6 replica.

Looking at the photo, his tyres are 145 / 15

Depends on profile, construction, specific tyre etc but a good place to start is:

Thanks for the link - that's a really useful table. I would be using 80 profile tyres on 14" or 15" wheels.
