Insuring a car twice?
I'm about to take possession of a company car, but I don't want to lose my NCD. Would it be possible/legal to get myself insured on my
wife's car, in addition to her own policy? She'd still be registered owner and main keeper (and a full policy), I'd have a limited
mileage policy or something just to keep the NCD alive.

No, but see if her company offers ncb for named drivers.

Pretty certain it's illegal to have two insurance policy's on the same car,I think your ncd will run for two years then you lose it .
Also think nowadays you can get ncd on company cars .

Pretty much what I thought, thanks. I guess when I finish with the company car I'll have to look at the insurers that consider driving history
rather than NCB, either that or buy a nice sporty three cylinder Corsa!!

Insurers except a letter from company car owners of proof of their company car drivers record these days...

couldn't you wait a year then insure the wifes car in your name, then a year later she insures it again in her name etc

I have the same thing coming up and this is what intended to do. Just swap for a year every two years.

Two years
If your worried just about losing your no claims, you have two years before it expires, adding to it is a different matter.
Life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Both of our NCB's are maxxed out so there's no adding, I just want to keep it alive.
Does it matter that I'll be insuring a car that I won't own? I don't want to swap owners as well as policies.

Just have a banger parked up to keep the insurance alive? You'd get it down to 200 a year with limited (no) mileage.

If you go down the old banger route, I can possibly offer a very cheap option. My wife was ill a few years ago and unable to drive for a time. We
parked her car in the back garden and called the insurance company to cancel the policy; instead they offered to suspend the insurance. I think that
it cost about £7 a month, the policy stayed live and she even "earned" additional NCD!

Some specialist insurers allow you to "park" your ncb even though it won't build. Worth asking

I've already got a banger, it's my normal car!! The problem is the 2 car drive and what will be 3 cars (actually, 4 when the kit is
finished).
