Intercooler fan

I've mounted my intercooler in front of the engine pretty much at floor level - open to the ground but not directly in the airflow. Was planning on making a sheet metal scoop to pull air up into the cooler but I can't make it very deep as it will reduce my ground clearance. There are a whole host of creative ways I could duct cool air into the cooler but I think the easiest is to just get a decent (kenlowe, spal) fan and suck air straight up from underneath.

Will I get enough air like this?
Will I kill the fan running it all/most the time?
Will I draw a silly amount of power running it all/most the time?

Enough cool air? Yes most of the time.
Kill the fan? No as long as you buy a decent one.
Power? About 10 amps

Personally I'd rather have the intercooler in front of the engine rad upfront if you can do this then think about using a chargecooler, cooler air = more power

I've seen cars with rads underneath and there not the best at cooling

If you are worried about the fan life put it on a boost sensitive switch or even a throttle linked switch that comes on at > half throttle with a timer off set at say 30 seconds to give it time to cool the intercooler after boost.

Ref an intercooler be careful with the inlet temps its an engine killer remember the air temperature at road level is all ways greater than air temperature . Can you not fit it in front of the normal radiator or in the top of the nose cone, or go for a charge cooler , my turbo runs about 10deg above ambient using one.
Fan cooled intercoolers can cope with the odd heat spike but have problems after that you would need a big fan with lots of grunt to push air through that intercooler.
If you want to see more pop up in the new year and ill show you some bits about the intercooler problems you can have

Intercooler at the front is always going to be better, If you need some ideas how their mounted you can always pop down and have a look at mine.

I'm not a million miles away.

I could fit one in the front with a bit of shifting things around. It is afterall a zero nosecone and polo radiator so there is a little room to play with. Just that other then the obvious it is really well positioned as far as keeping pipe bends to a minimum, using available space etc. Plus its new, shiny, and in there already. I'll see what I can think of before I go back to drawing board. Someone on another forum showed me this idea - very sexy:
