sprockets

Hi guys I am having trouble sourcing a spare rear sprocket for my project.I have spent the last day or so looking for one on the internet to no avail. Having had a look at all sorts of sprockets I have noticed the similarity's between my set up and that of a karts rear axle. Avoiding the possible extreme expense of having to get a one off or batch of sprockets made could I use a kart sprocket carrier attached to a conventional bike sprocket? Providing I can find a carrier with matching bolt pattern to a bike sprocket is it technically viable or am I constructing a prop from a saw movie
