vauxhall redtop over fueling

Hi All
I have a vauxhall redtop(C20XE) in my Phoenix and I cannot seem to get the fueling right. I am running Susuki GSXF 750 mikunni carbs and it is overfueling so much that after 3 minites or so you connot go in the garage even with the door open and my clothes stink of fuel .
I Started off with 1.7mm jets and needles down on last clip air screw at 2 turns out the AFR reading on the gauge was 7.2 so I dropped down to 1.6mm needle and it has no impact on the reading am I missing somthing or should I keep going down in jet size until I get close and then adjust the needle height. The float heights are as book at 12mm +/- 1 but are pretty close.
Thanks in advance
Kev

I am using kawasaki ZXR900 bike pump and this stops when bowls are full I left the car standing with ignition on and engine off to see if the pump carried all seemed ok.

Hello Kev. if it is doing this at low throttle openings the main jet size is immaterial as the mixture is controlled by the needle, unless the 'choke' is on. Are all the carb vents open to atmosphere?

Phoned the local ramblers club today, but the bloke who answered just
