Pressurised air storage ideas please
Guys,
I'm a keen mountain biker and run tubeless tyres, the same principle as car tyres and rims.
I struggle to get enough air into the valve to seat the tyre on the bead.
There is a thing available called an airshot http://www.airshotltd.com/ But at £60.00 it seems a bit steep.
Does anyone have any other ideas of vessels that would confidently take the 150psi max that would be required to seat the tyres repeatedly.
There are Ghetto versions around using 2L coke bottles and to be fair I did borrow a coke bottle one and pump it to 80psi and it did the job for me
when my 200L compressor at work wouldn't do it.
I'm after something safer than the coke bottle but less expensive than the airshot varient.
Any ideas welcome, it needs t be able to be drilled and have a bike valve fitted to it so it can be portable when I'm away with the bikes.
Just jumped into my head......how about an aluminium sigg style drinks bottle?

Have you seen the ghetto tubeless inflator that used an old fire extinguisher?
There was a really good write up on it on Singletrackworld.com. I'll have a search and get back to you - perhaps

why safer than the coke bottle?
I used to use them for resin injection at 10bar,.. so 80psi should be less of an issue.
I have a smaller coke bottle like for the airhorn on my bike.

Used paintball/airsoft HP air bottle or even CO2 bottle would be the safest option... and cheaper...
You just need adaptor and fitting to bicycle valve

How about finding a dead air compressor and use the tank.
Available from 5 litre to 150 litre to suit your need.

You need volume flow not pressure. With car tyres with Schrader valves removing the valve core to reduce the restriction so you get a quick initial
blast of air to seat the bead works a treat. Also using proper bead lubricant helps.
The amount of air you can force through a small orrifice (ie the valve) is limited by the formation of shock waves due the velocity of the air in
narrow part of the restriction going transonic.

I am sure there used to be some that used soda syphon sparklets bulbs. (and fill with CO2 )

I have a garden sprayer that I will have a go at converting I think.
I wouldn't have thought a coke bottle would be rated at that pressure, fair play!

i made one for beading car tyres, i used an old co2 extinguisher bottle and fitted a ball valve to the top, connect it tommy home compressor line and
pressure to 120psi, then close the valve, when you want to bead a tyre connect it up then open the valve one instant dump of air

Many years ago a bunch of us pressure tested a couple of coke bottles, before using one full of compressed air and one full of water as 2 litre (later
3 litre) water pistols and became almost notorious at Run To The Sun. We thought that coke bottles would probably take the pressure as a previous
design (the original glass coke bottle) was ridiculously over designed - apparently good for over 900 psi !!!

I've only ever had a problem seating tubeless MTB tyres when I was using non-tubeless in ghetto form with dodgy setups. All the modern tubeless
tyres I've ever had anything to do with seated and ran just fine with the standard little CO2 pumps that are £1 a pop when bought in bulk, and
easy to carry. How come you're struggling with seating?
