Sylva J15 rebuild-ish!
I always try and do a build diary of my projects, but it always seem to go adrift! Anyway, ill try to keep this one on track.
I bought a J15, from Paul Collingwood (a circuit racer) with the intention of going hillclimbing/ sprinting/ track daying with it. It is pretty much
all there, apart from-
Engine
Gearbox
Wiring
Shocks
Fuel pump.
And probably 100 more things when I get into it!
The plan is to get a civic type R and put the engine and box into the back of it. This is what the chassis is intended for and has been a reliable set
up for many years of circuit racing.
Somewhere in the process I need to build myself a new garage as my current one has no electric/ lighting and is quite damp. So i will be borrowing the
use of my dads (again!)
Thanks, Mark.

I'm assuming this will go in sports libre? In which case the class splits at 1700cc
4a - under 1700cc
4b - over 1700cc
Locally this may be good for you as it'll keep, you away from the radicals etc. and in with the more saloon libre type cars!

Im still getting to grips with it all but....
Would it not go into- 'C2 Modified Limited Production Cars over 1400cc up to 2000cc' . As the J15 was a limited production run car?

I think 20 identical chassis need to be made over a 12month period to get in there

I'll have to send an email to the manufacturer and see what's what! I'm sure you'll get bombarded with hill climb related
questions though Dan!

It would be a B10 car (Modified Specialist Production Car under 2000cc) down south. This is where all the kitcars are likely to end up next year.
You may have a problem with the ROPS as it stands, something to check in the Blue Book.

Last year I was against a Phoenix with a buss lump,a fireblade lo cost and a few other kits in little libre up here!
I think it differs depending on areas but am positive others like Simon Boulter had to run libre in his fury last year!
Any questions feel free to ask as if you get it all sorted early next year then we'll no doubt be at loads of events together next
year, travelling in convoy is always good!

Im hoping to have it sorted for april time! But we will see...!
The roll bar is something on my list, Im considering my options in regards to a full cage, the rear hoop meets spec so I just need a front hoop and
some sides welding up!. Are you going for a full cage for next year Jeff?
In regards to classes, who actually decides? and when is it decided (before each meeting or pre season?)?
Mark.

Classes are sorted by the championship entered! Before the season.
I'd imagine you'll be with longton or Liverpool speed series.so classes will be outlined then

Managed to find myself a Type R, picked it up this morning. The bodywork's an absolute state but the engine is low mileage for the age and its
had the timing chain done!
Treated myself to a tillett seat (factory seconds- to keep cost down-ish!), so i just need to get it in the car and set it up to accept a Has device/
seatbelt at the correct angles.
Pictures to follow!

What height is the Tillet seat back?
I use a foam in a bag type seat in my sprint cars and find them very comfy

Not sure on the height but I'm in the process of re positioning the seatbelt mounts to comply with HANS. It did come with a bag seat but I got
the tillett at a good price and prefer the look!

Time for a small update, I've not had much time over Christmas to get much done..... Family and life always seem to get in the way of fun
things!
I've got the engine and box out of the Type R, removed the gearbox from the engine and gotit on the stand for a clean up and to get a baffle
fitted into the sump.
Its a good job I had my dad to help out as its a bit of a squeeze!
Im not a fan of Civics, especially with those wheels!!
its never a good sign to be taking an angle grinder to an expensive piece of fibreglass, but that'll teach me for not measuring first!
Fits like a dream now. Just need to get the harness mounts in the correct position!
Hopefully the engine and box should be in this weekend, I'm just waiting on a few gaskets to be delivered. Heres a few pictures of the car, its
a really nicely designed bit of kit and a credit to Paul (the original builder) and Jeremy Phillips (the designer!).
Thanks for looking, Mark.

Nope, just a MSA spec roll-hoop. Yours will not be compliant this year as it stands, the rear stays need to be welded or bolted in as per the
Bluebook. Yours looks like it is rose-jointed?

Engine is in!
Temp fitted the exhaust just to see how it all lines up.. tight isnt the word!
Still in the process of getting the wiring loom out of the donor car, but over the next few weeks it should all start coming together!

Your right Dan, I had to run in libre as mod prod under 1400 would always complain about the bike engine and most regs would ban them anyway

I ended up being in a class of my own as sports libre, just leaves you to chase FTD, I was under 1,400cc.
Being the only entry out of 60-70 cars is a shame as you cannot benchmark yourself.

Great engine choice! It is a much cheaper and better solution to run a K20a than making a Duratec output the same power.
