Zetec Camshaft Sensor??

G'day LCB-ers;

Still plodding my way through wiring for the Nodiz Pro, for my silvertop Zetec. I reckon to have sorted most, if not all, of the necessary wiring connections.

Except for the camshaft position sensor!! Where should this be connected? None of my Haynes manuals cover this item (mainly because they're like me - too old ).

Apologies if its a daft question. Your advice on this will, as usual, be greatly appreciated.

I'm no expert on Nodiz, but i guess its similar to megajolt??? Are you using a toothed wheel or the flywheel? If so Nodiz will have all the information it needs. I didnt need the camshaft sensor with megajolt.

I hope this helps.

On wasted spark ignition the cam sensor is really just provided for the injection system.

Stupid Question......Does it actually have cam shaft position sensor?....Unless you have VVT / VCT etc.

You will however need a Crankshaft position sensor...are you getting the two mixed up?.

Yes the silver-top Zetec has cam position sensor.
On my Megasquirt set up I'm not using it though - just have the sensor in place to plug the hole. (Run crank position sensor only, which uses flywheel for sensor data).

You only need it for sequential fuel injection. So you won't need it for 99% of aftermarket ecu's carb or injection.

Nodiz does not need this signal, just leave the sensor there dormant.

As mentioned here - it needs a crankshaft signal, and if you want the benefits of a 3d advance table, then a TPS or MAP sensor.

To expand a bit fully sequential injection systems use to identify which cylinder is on the induction stroke.
It is also increasing used on some engines to identify timing chain wear. Checking the cam-crank relative timing by looking at the signals on a dual trace oscilloscope is becoming an increasingly important diagnostic technique.

What an interesting range of replies!! Thanks for all your advice.

Conclusion :-

Running Nodiz doesn't require a camshaft sensor connection.
