How cheap can you do a BEC?

Looking at options as I am getting prices of £3500 for a mini engine and box (that does not include carbs cooling etc)

Similar price? Cheaper? More expensive?

Mini based so would need a cradle making, fuel tank sorting for return etc (looking at early R1 engines on carbs)

Go out and find a whole bike, crash damaged, auction, thatkind of thing.

Strip off the engine and everything you need then sell oneverything else. You should get all your money back on the bits.

Where to look for a complete bike, since ebay isnt full of them..................

And its an option to look at when people are giving me prices of £3500-£4000 for a mini engine/box.

Vaux/Honda/Nissan etc wont fit without chopping up the frame, something which I would rather not do.

Early R1 engine will about £1k, maybe a bit less.

If you're buying the cradle, diff etc. Probably still looking at £3.5k for the conversion kit. But it'll be quicker than a mini engine, for sure!

Is this just to buy an engine?

With box.

A sccr can cost £1000 on its own.

Local (ish) place has said they can do an engine (1293) with standard box for £2500 if I supply engine (which I have to buy at around £500). If you go Bill Richards, Swiftune, MED etc then looking at £3500 to £4500 and still need to supply engine.

Now you can get kits etc, but have damaged my arm (waiting to see if I need surgery on it) so wont be doing that option.

Then add on carb, exhaust, maybe mega jolt etc

If went injection thats at least another £1000 for TBs, ecu etc

So an R1 engine (if I could find a bike) for £1000 is same price as a sccr, then get a cradle made up.......

But also now looking at Micra and see how small that is.

Comes to bang for buck.

If its going to cost roughly same for a bike conversion as a 1380 with sccr, then would have to have a proper think about it.

However, if someone could do a cradle for me cheap, westgate(?) do the sprockets, and it "might" just be cheaper.

Hence me asking.

I could gamble on an ebay engine, just fit it and hope, it might last years, it might last 10 miles, thats the gamble.

And never heard of them.

Guessworks list a 4 speed straight cut box at £1226!

And its a mini kit car thats mid mounted.

So looking at all engines, bike, micra, a-series.

I will point out these are road going and not full on race engines.

Thats why I am looking at prices for bike engines and trying to find someone to do a cradle.

NTDWM here is someone on the forum with some engines for sale - obviously you will need other bits apart from the engine too!

and for the list of other bits:
