Cbr1000 crank issues - Honda recall.

So I have been looking around for a new cbr1000 engine for my car (upgrading from a 919) and have spoken to Andy at AB Performance about getting his billet sump to drop some height and also his upgraded clutch kit, etc. I found a 2012 wrecked bike at auction (in Australia where I am located) which was a statutory write off (can never be repaired and re-registered) thinking I might get it cheap.......turns out it sold for $4500 which was just retarded so I missed out on that one. This being the case I have been looking at anything from 2004 - 2014 at auction hoping to pick up a cheaper wreck. During my research about power upgrades, etc I came across a lot of things about people having issues with excessive oil consumption and crankshaft problems with the 2008/2009 series engines, has anyone else come across these problems?
Also is there much difference in power output between the 2004-2007 series and the 2008 on series?

My neighbour had a rattle from his in a bike which he only bought a week earlier, took it back and the Honda dealer refunded him for the bike rather than repair the engine.
They said that was a crank issue.
