Would you buy an ex-police car?

I'm subscribed to an ex police car website, and I've just had a mailshot with some pretty decent cars in it. This one looks nice;

http://www.expolicecar.co.uk/stockdetail.asp?id=565

The mileage doesn't bother me, the mot history suggests a well maintained car (as expected). It's quite a bit cheaper than comparable cars on autotrader.

Question is, would you buy an ex police car?

We used to look after an ex-police traffic car owned by tv entertainer impressionist now probably working the cruise ship circuit, high mileage but no issues in his 4 or 5 years of ownership, but some caveats cut backs have reduced maintanance budgets and vehicles are being worked harder and theses days a vehicle is more likely been involved in a high speed pursuit.

Hi, I have had a T5 V70, great car and cheap, it nearly got to 10 years old, blew an exhaust valve at 207,400miles 2 weeks ago towing the caravan. Would I buy another? YES. Only my opinion though.

I bought an ex police SD1, apart from the mounting holes for radios etc. it was fine, mechanically almost perfect.

Then I swapped it for a microphone. (see Benzine's post) :

Hmmm, given the way they seem to drive (sorry thrash) pandas around Bournemouth, I'm thinking that the traffic cars, whilst pushed, will at least have been driven hard by someone who is an expert.

I had the (great) pleasure of owning an ex-police Mk1 escort mexico that was used as a traffic car on the East Lancs Road, great motor, and similar to ri_pete, apart from the holes for radio ariels and an extra speedo on the dash (that has just been incorporated into my Indy dash), it was pretty much perfect, and went on for years. It's brother featured on a car restoration program on TV last year, still with all the police bits and bobs fitted

Most of the cars that I currently see are fubar ed
It really is about what use they have been put to but even light use the interiors are ripped with all the gear hanging off the body armour
That said most are run into the ground now

I went on one of the Volvo 'naughty trackdays' a few years ago. (basically an arifield day trying to flog people S60 T6's). We did got to drive a Police V70 D5 though and it was awesome, my coment to the sales guy at the end of the event was "if you made the cars you sell to the public like the cop car I would buy one!"
