IVA and Aluminium 'Edges'

In a few places on my J15 I have one aluminium panel overlapping another. So effectivley there is an 'edge' of around 2mm.

One of these is on the vertical side of the tunnel where I made two pieces as it was far easier than one. This one is easy to sort with some piping but my dash is aluminium and folds under to sit on some 25mm square steel tube. That would be much harder to sort.

My question is, in people experience, are these edges likely to be IVA fails? The IVA manual seems to be a bit vague about this.

Do you mean places where one sheet of aluminium lies flat on top of another, leaving an edge?

If so, don't worry. Just make sure that the upper sheet is tight on top of the lower one (not sticking up anywhere) and that the outermost corner of the exposed edge on the upper sheet is slightly rounded (so you can rub your hand over it without risking a cut). There should be no problem if it's all neat, tidy and blunted.

No worries!

When the inspector did my car he first had a good look around, then he ran his hands over areas likely to cause problems. In my case, he just brushed his hand over the joins, and the height and radius gauges stayed in his pocket.

probably worth having a roll of 'gaffer tape' or similar with you when you do iva, just in case.

They won't accept it - any fix has to be permanent.
