Brake Cable (thwaites dumper)

Any ideas where I can get a replacement brake cable made up for my dumper? - ~800mm long with a clevis at each end (one being adjustable), not a bowden just a pull cable 1/4" diameter.

Cable/system stretched/bent beyond any effectiveness!

Thanks

Greg

Hi mate

Very good place in Dorking Surrey called Venhills send your one as pattern obviously it needs to be shorter but they are very good and helpful.

as an interim 'fix' you may be able to use a cable shortener / adjuster

Speedy Cables are good but would probably need the old one as a pattern . Have you Goggled Benford parts?

Mine looks like this, chugs away on a cup full of diesel all day.

Much better than a wheel barrow, it's a lovely old thing

Have you had a look on ebay here

Alternatively you could try HTS or just a google search for "plant spares" to find someone more local to you.

ETA You might want to have a look at the caliper on the machine to find out why the cable got damaged. Often you will find that the adjustment has all been done on the handle end whereas there is also adjustment at the caliper (depending on the model). Sometimes the caliper adjuster is seized (open to the elements).

Might be worth downloading a diagram as there are a couple of systems used

As its not a Bowden, could it be replace by a threaded rod and clivisses (clevii)?
