Handbrake calipers

Has anyone come across a mechanical handbrake only caliper?
A mate of mine has just been through the test with a Jag based kit car running a separate hydraulic handbrake system. Failed!

Any ideas guys?

RD advertise a Wilwood MC4 mechanical park brake caliper in the catalogue.
Not sure how effective it would be though.

If your mate is feeling flush, new aston v8 vantage h/b calipers are about £210 each, and pads are £25 a set.
I've got one to mot tomorrow, i'll post up the h/b efforts for comparison.

I'm fitting MC4 calipers, they seem a nice piece of kit, with sliding mounts etc as part of the unit. £80 plus vat each. They are more effective than the wilwood spot handbrake calipers which by rally designs own admission aren't that effective.

The aston ones were 188 and 203 kgf - enough to pull the vehicle out the rollers with 23% efficiency and more effort available at the lever.
The only difference visible mechanism wise that i could see is the handbrake lever is about 1/3 longer than most cars.
That mc4 look more suitable than the older spot caliper, the old spot caliper struggles to pass mot on a quad based pickup let alone a jag based kit.

Dont think he can run to Aston calipers!

By the way the rear brake discs are 25mm thick! So that creates a problem!

I'm interested in the MC4 calipers but looks like they are designed for vented discs. Is it possible to use spacers to make it work with thinner discs?

hi spec do these rear caliper's, which are a combo hydraulic and separate mechanical hand brake mechanism, and also a mechanical only style.

they are IVA compliant and can be specced in different widths.

does that help?
