Brake Bias

Is it still the case that the brake bias bar needs to be pinned for IVA? Cant seem to find any reference to it in the IVA manual. If it is still the case, what the best accepted method of locking the bar? Drill and pin through the clevis that attaches to the master cylinder?

thanks

Lockwire is specifically mentioned in the manual, (note 5 section 09B) but some examiners have accepted a nyloc nut. Worth a call to your chosen test centre.

section:
Service Brake Control / Mechanical Components 09B
required standard:26. It must not be possible to manually adjust braking rates between axles see Notes 4 and 5

Note 5: Bias bars and other mechanical adjusting devices fitted to twin master cylinders must be rendered inoperable by mechanical means e.g. lock wiring of components.

Thanks for the help! Will investigate using Nyloc nuts as this is a far better option in my opinion!

Now to establish how much braking effort I need to the rear exactly!

Did you reach a conclusion on this?

I have a hole drilled and tapped into the end of my bias bar and would really like to drill and tap the nut and locitite a grub screw in there.

I'm sure I saw somewhere that this was deemed acceptable, plus its easier for future adjustment.

I am awaiting my father in law to pop into the local IVA station to ask the question as he works near by!

Will let you know when we get an answer.
