New tool acquired

Need to drop the engine oil out of my Peugeot 205 GTI. The sump plug takes a square drive so I looked about for a suitable socket for the job. They're available, but seem to start at around £5 a piece.

Then I recalled in my younger days taking the 8mm x 8mm square spindle out of my bedroom door for the job. Found one on ebay for £1.50 + £0.00 shipping. Problem solved...

Why didn't you just "borrow" one from a bedroom door, not necessarily your own room?

Good lateral thinking, by the way !

I bought a Laser version of this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-Pce-Sump-Plug-Key-Set-Car-Axle-Sump-Oil-Draining-Tool-Socket-Set/183031657912
for ~£15 10+ years ago which has paid for itself several times over. Its done every oil plug, and more random things like the cam pulley on the clio.

Don't live in my parents house any more and I suspect they'd get the arse if I pilfered a door part

Didn't come across that set, but it does look good and I'd probably have bought it as well.

I'm seeing the issue now...it doesn't appear to have an 8 mm x 8 mm square, which is the one I need for the 205 GTI sump plug

OK - I didn't read it properly

That would do the task at hand!

I find most socket drives fit the plugs, my Landy uses 1/2 inch

They may on some, but I've got 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2" sockets so no good for this on I'm afraid.
