Steering column angle

I've got the MX5 steering column top half, followed by a hollow tube, then a UJ to connect to a Mk2 Escort rack. But putting it all together it seems to be very much in line. I've yet to measure the angle, but I seem to remember there does seem to be an angle.

I'm maintaining the collapsible section of the MX5 column, and it's mounted so it can still slide on impact. And I've followed the plans to the letter (well, apart from using the MX5 column instead of the sierra column), I'm just not sure about the angle (or lack of) for the middle joint.

What do I need to do to maintain the IVA requirements? Or does the collapsible column negate the need for an angle?

Is the rack shorterned? If not that maybe why?

I don't follow, a shortened rack wouldn't move the UJ position? You shorten the rack to change the bump characteristics, the outer sleeve isn't shortened. If I did shorten the outer sleeve to move the UJ, it would be a lot of work and probably not give me the angle I need.

If I change the angle of the upper part of the column I can easily get 10 degrees, I'll just have a slight angle of the wheel in relation to the dashboard. But I am confused how I've ended up like this based on following the plans.
