Donor engine with right hand side chimney?
Greetings chums.
I'm looking to fit an engine into a hole left by a Cossy YB, and for that reason, a 4 cylinder inline unit with the exhaust on the right hand
side is preferable. We're looking for 150+bhp. It will be front engine, rear wheel drive.
The obvious choice is looking like a Duratec with a Mk3 MX5 with the original ECU and loom, but what are the other options? Why do some Duratecs have
the chimney on the wrong hand side?!
BMW? Merc? Mazda?
The budget isn't my usual £50 but at the same time, we don't want to be spending £4k!!

Cause they aren't real duratecs 
Ford stuck the duratec badge on everything for a while (like ecoboost now)
Including the Kent based one in some KAs
The "real" one that most folk are meaning is the 'Duarte HE' it only came in 1.8, 2.0 and 2.3 and doesn't count the
focus ST170, but does count the original 2.0 fiesta ST (its 150hp out the box)

The ST150 is the one to get, already has erg blanked off, single mass flywheel and larger valves increasing gas flow.
150hp out the box aprox 200hp with Jenveys.

If you have a big enough budget the eco boost 1.6 may be worth a look, came in 120, 140 and 180hp versions and is turntable to 300hp without internal
mids. Basicslly a Zetec se/sigma engine turbo’d, all alloy engine so pretty light too. Iirc Bailey motorsport were looking at engineering a port
injection manifold and megasquirt rather than the stock direct injection. Can use a type 9 on a retroford bellhousing or a rx8 6 speed with adaptor
plate.
Just an alternative to think about.

I have a type 9 on mine with Duratec bell housing

For the Duratec not sure if Bigwassa on here has done an oem pats-less “how to” but may be worth a search. This will get the fiesta st150 up and
running with the stock plenum for nothing.
For Duratec gearboxes then iirc retroford do a bell housing (around £200 iirc) for the type 9 but I am sure you are aware of the limitations of this
plus they are starting to go up in price (short 1st, big gap to 2nd) although there are quite a few long first etc. Conversions about (quaife, spec,
bah etc.) but at a price. The Mk3 mx5 6 speed box bolts straight on but is at an angle to the engine, alternatively I think there are rx8 6 speed
conversion plates (search Fredy686868 on turbosport or eBay) these use the stock ford 1” 23 spline clutch. Or I guess just use the mx5 Duratec engine
and box if you can handle the engine angle. These a only slightly bigger than the type 9 so you will need to check tunnel clearance, but for £250 you
can be up and runnng with a 6 speed helical box (gears 2-6 are the same as the quaife clubman type 9) which will handle 250 hours and 250 ftlbs and
rev to 9500rpm all day and it if goes band it is only a couple of hundred pound to replace.

Not done the he, I sold the complete car to a fellow lcb’er as I had to much on.
I am working on The Duratec 30.
How about a chimney both sides ?

It's to go in this, so a narrowish engine is required.....no room for a V.

Strangely enough, the gear stick from the original setup, protruded up through the seat... The propshaft is very short.
