EDIS Fun! No Spark

Not sure if this should be here or in Engine/Transmission but here goes:

I'm trying to set up a Microsquirt, and I'm not getting a spark. this is what i've tried so far:

Disconnected the Microsquirt to see if the EDIS will do its 10 degree BTDC magic;
checked the EDIS and coil get 12V which on cranking drops to just over 10V
I've checked the VR sensor wiring and am getting over 2v on cranking using an oscilloscope
I've tried swapping the VR sensor polarity. One thing I have noticed is that there's a connection between the two EDIS coil outputs, which appears to be a tach out and in theory shouldn't be connected and I've not been able to trace it, but I can't imagine why a tach out would be stopping anything

Also checked for a PIP signal, which I think I'm getting, after swapping the VR wires - again:

But the output to the coil isn’t quite what I was expecting, this is between the middle and the right output on the coil plug:

Anyone got any ideas or things to test as the can of fuel and a box of matches are looking tempting!

A standalone edis should be giving a spark, the tacho connection is probably 2 diodes across the coil connections and could be shorting the signal to the coil pack if faulty, I would remove them and try again.

I run my tacho off the edis tacho output pin. Tried it off the coil in the past and was awful! Should start and run with just the EDIS though if all is connected correctly.

Having re-read my post I've realised the ambiguity over the tacho output, it's from the EDIS using pin 11, with 10 and 12 being the coil feeds.

My plan is to hook the scope up to this out put and see what I see, if it shows a pulse (I do seem to be getting a PIP output so I'd imagine this will be working) then it's all down to the outputs to the coils but I don't understand what could be causing the issue with them?

Your link to the coil output waveform video doesn't work, what are you seeing that you didn't expect?

I'm having trouble uploading pic at the moment but see its this link works any better:

VIDEO1 - Between PIP and GND

VIDEO2 - This is from the plug that connects to the coil between middle and one of the other contacts

What wiring diagram are you using for the edis? I have a copy of the trigger Wheels manual which is what i used and worked first time

One form the Megasquirt manual EDIS

They all appear to be the same.
With the VR sensor the other way round I don't get a PIP output, or a spark
No checked the coil is grounded but I'd still expect to see a high voltage change on the coil plug at the moment it's about 1v

This morning I tried using the scope to see what I was getting from the EDIS tach out put, nothing, so swapped VR+- around and now I'm getting a pulse on tach but PIP now shows the same wave form as before but only for a couple of seconds.
Still confused!!

this is the situation I have:

VR sensor one way round:
VR Signal that looks right at at least +2v
No Tach signal
PIP signal that's there for as long as I'm cranking at at least 10v

VR sensor the other way round:
VR Signal that looks right at at least +2v
Tach signal
PIP signal that's there for only a second at at least 10v

Other points the PIP looks more like a saw tooth than a square wave, but that might just be my scope, and the VR signal looks exactly like it should, I can even see the missing tooth :-)

So which is correct?
Still no pigging spark either way round!!!

well blow me I've got a spark!!!

with the vr sensor this war around:

VR sensor one way round:
VR Signal that looks right at at least +2v
No Tach signal
PIP signal that's there for as long as I'm cranking at at least 10v

which is the top of the vr sensor going to pin 5

I have no idea what I did differently

And there’s life in the engine, not idling yet but trying to. On the microsquirt you need to connect PIP to VR+ and not pin 30 as suggested by one diagram. Now on to get an idle!
