Supercharged to webber?

I have decided to give up on my supercharged 2L silvertop zetec engine and will be going down the bike throttle body or webber route. Can anyone give me pros and cons for either?

Ive already got a map-able Canems ECU, high pressure fuel pump and lines, fuel pressure reg if i went down the bike TB route

I couldnt get the noise down so wont be allowed on track. Id rather lose the SC and some power and go for a more standard route and get out on track when its a bit warmer

If you have the ECU I'd go for bike bodies. They will be easier to maintain than Webers and a lot cheaper to buy. If both are set up well power will be similar but car should be more driveable on bodies.

Cheers SJ. Is there a particular "go to" bike TB for zetecs?

Many will work from 1l or 600/750 bikes.. One question is whether you want to re-space them to match the zetec or buy a custom manifold from somewhere like danst engineering.

Most Gsxr ones can be re-spaced.

I have carbs from a zx6r on mine, re-spaced to match the engine.

I would use GSXR 750 or 1000 K1 or K2 bodies as they are easily respaced. They are 42mm and good for 200hp. They have secondary butterflies but these are easy to remove. There's a set on ebay at £140. Bargain. DANST engineering can supply a manifold, I believe.
Later versions can still be used but they come as two sets of two. They can be spaced as pairs but not individually and obviously need a manifold to suit.
If you don't want to get involved in re-spacing you could get a manifold with "cranked" tubes.
I made my own manifold for my 3SGE motor.

I don't really get bike tb's unless your making stuff your self.
l would look at the Jenvey replicas or even spend a touch more for genuine.

DanSt does do some nice work.

Surely your charger has value as a project to help offset things.

^^^^^^^ Keenly priced, even without injectors and TPS. 45mm might be a little large depending on your state of tune but will allow for future mods.

It's just price. probably half what you posted on the link, or even less if you make your own manifold.

I went the bike carb route which cost next to nothing compared to webers.

Thanks for the replies chaps

Excuse my ignorance....but what would i need if i go the way i plan.....

If i go webber/weber....... Zetec manifold and a set of webber carbs, zetec ignition system for the carbs.... is that it for this route?

If i go bike TB....... Zetec manifold, bike TBs and associated wiring...(ECU and high pressure fuel pump/lines i already have)

If you go Webers, you shouold be able to use your Canems ecu to provide just ignition. Or if you sell you SC stuff off as a package, you will need an ignition only ecu.

If going throttle bodies, you will need an inlet, the bodies, and some wiring. Oversimplified a bit...
The ST170 stub manifold will bolt up to the head, but the ports don't quite line up. I think this can be rectified?
I have an ST170, use the stub inlet, a set of re-spaced GSXR bodies (some 5mm threaded bar, tube, nuts washers, about a tenner to do the job, plus extend the linkages, 10 mins with a mig) Some silicone tube to join the bodies to the inlet. I used a std blacktop fuel tail with the ford FPR, the blacktop injectors should be sufficient, if not ST170 ones. Or even the bike injectors.
My kit cost around £100, but I had the inlet and injectors.

Or buy a danst inlet manifold and either source your own bodies, or let him supply the whole kit. Advantages of him supplying is it should all be there, simpler to complete etc, but you pay for that. Your choice.

Or indeed, a Weber inlet, and either Jenveys or similar bodies. A branded set of bodies will have good resale value should you ever wish to part with them...

What sort of power are bike carbs good for?

I should think the main 1L sports bike carbs would be good for 200 - 250bhp.

I have 600cc bike carbs on mine and make something like 140bhp.

Very much depends on the engine.

That’s my point,

If your making them up yourself it makes sense. If your paying some one to do a quality job then there isn’t a lot of difference in price.
