MOT for built up vehicle report
My build is nearly complete, and will be registered as a radically modified vehicle.
I have filled the forms in once previously and was told by the DVLA the car needs to be MOT'd to be registered.
I've since been told that this is a mistake, and that it doesn't.
Does anyone know for sure?

Yes, I've calculated there are enough original parts inc chassis to keep the original reg.

I would suggest it is MoT first then, as its doesnt require an IVA.

From what I can see other than the colour of the front springs that looks like an original 1303 super beetle floorpan and suspension. No to be
confused with the more common front torsion spring beetle setup on the non-super models

I'd have to agree that that doesn't remotely look like an unmodified chassis. You literally have a new tubular chassis there, with a floor
pan attached.
Beware! Bourettes is binfectious.

Exactly, that link shows a Beetle 'chassis'. The exo frame is just a new body which you are allowed to change without IVA I believe as long
as the 'chassis' is not modified.
I have been looking into this as I have a 1973 Beetle which I would like to use to make a 356 replica and to do that the chassis has to be shortened
so in my case and IVA is needed.

You need to think before hand, do I really need to deal with the DVLA?? and avoid them at all costs unless absolutely essential.
With that car, you should have fitted the frame first with the original engine, got the colour changed and MOT'd. Then fitted the new engine and
got the garage to confirm the CC change for the tax class. However it should be road tax free as the last super was 1975. Plus before converting it
you could have applied for historic vehicle class as a bugs over the 40 years so MOT requirement, then all you'd have had to pay for each year is
the insurance.

though it might get classic tax at zero rate, it will need a mot each year, because it has been modified
within the last 30 years.

and dvla do need to be informed; because it is a substantially modified vehicle.

Yep that's what honesty gets you, there's been sand rails built since the 70's so who is ever to prove it wasn't converted to one

I was going to start a new post on something like this. I have seen two sylva strikers over the last week listed on ebay with the listing stating no
Mot or Tax need as it came from a mk2 escort.
The listing look like car dealers trying to be the private listers & don't no anything about kitcars

The styker comes up as MoTd and as a stryker on mot check so must must be the case.
