How did they track down your company and then find your boss?
Like to see them try it with me!
Cheers,
James

Col,
Whatever you said was only stated through experience of the firm(I assume?) so I think its rubbish(can't put language as strong as I would like)
that you can't voice your opinion to make others aware of the issues you had.
It should only make the company more professional by dealing with bad issues.
infuriating country we live in.!!!!!
What was the company?
I have a current issue with an kitcar insurance company. - sureterm direct
and I have prewarned them about negative publicity
.......boil my blood these type of things

There are all sorts of ways of finding out who people are, not only IP addresses.

EVERY device on the Internet has an IP address.
OK, if its a Fixed one they have you dead. But they still have to get the physical home address from the ISP, and they may need "Just
Cause" and have to provide the proof to get it.
If you have dial up, and they will use Dynamic addressing, so you get a different one every time you dial in.
However, the ISP (Internet Service Provider) has to keep records of which account, was allocated that address at that time. They still got you. (Texts
from mobiles are held for a while incase they are needed, ie a simmilar record is held)
If you use a Pay as you Go dial up service or even a premium rate ISP, they will not accept calls from phones NOT presenting your Calling Line ID, and
they have you again, unless you can blagg / cut into your neighbours phone line.
So what do you do.?
Use an Internet Cafe, Pay CASH, then surf / Mail via an anonomised Mailing service or proxy.
Better still is Hijack or use someones crappy (insecure) system to Mask your IP address.
Better still to hide behind several serially chained events like above.
or Crack a Wireless LAN connection, probably the simplest. Never use an Email address that you "own", even a spoofed one they can track
down.
Threats of Legal action from companies with large financial resources are extremely worrying, as you cant fight in court unless you have either legal
knowlege or a lot of spare money to pay for legal advice.
There are a lot of clever people out there on the enforcement side of the world with a lot more knowlege on detecting the origins of Internet events
/ actions.
It aint worth it.
There are better ways to get at neighbours. The Pizza / taxi is not good for the companies.
The Coupon / Mail one is good as the PO earn money from it and is not to their detriment.
Tell me where you live, and which the neighbours house is... I can go Off Roading with a few Mates, in the front Garden at 3am!! A pride of V8
Landies, Sound GREAT... plus driven irresponsibly, they can chew up grass and soil making nasty old ruts... unfortunately not as good as ones the
farmers make on green Lanes with their tractors
The above are all good to help retain your sanity, but legally will get you into hot water and are best avoided... but they make youfeel better just
imagining it all
Never Admit anything on paper or in print, or electronically - Its ALL Evidence that will stand up in a court of law.
Best Way:
Try to be nice, or at least professional about it. I had nearly everyone in the street object to my planning permission for my 40 ft Radio Mast in the
back garden. The objections were from the sensible and practical to the unreal.
I did a 14 page reply to the council (I got a copy of every complaint as its public domain) and took them all apart, with sensible and reasoned
arguement.
I know I would Win, as I quoted the Deputy Prime Ministers Office's Guide to Councils which actively promotes Amateur radio as a hobby, as it
produces keen electronic engineers for the industrial sector. Its having the right info and how to use it.
NEVER act too quickly or rashly, THINK it through FIRST.

Famiuly business has a mobile phone mast on some rented out land. obviously there was some complaining, but its a laugh to think that people are too
busy writing complaints with one hand to realise that there holding a modile phone with the other.

Yes I agree... but us amateurs only play with Low power (compared to the commercial transmitters), ususally at evenings and weekends. The Tx time is
very minimal ie only when speaking. Wheras the mobile masts are transmitting almost 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Thats a LOT more radiation both in
power and timewise. Namely the exposure rate for commecial transmitters is both higher and longer.
Personally I do not believe there is a Major problem with all this. (I'v been in communications professionally for 36 years)
However, I would not want to expose Growing Children to any of it. ie masts by schools. Just Like Jamie Oliver is campaining for better food for young
growing children with the Shool Dinners. Its the same type of principle. Except his crusade is about a KNOWN and well proven documented problem
