good head!

i took all ur addvise and just going to clean head whilst doing that i came acroos the inlet ports have been widen and the valve changed the inlet 33mm and exhaust 29mm. don't no if it is unleaded or not. but all'a good. later

stainless chassis

Hi John,

Nice idea, i went for an 18g tube ( purley for a weight saving of approx 6 kg)

the st/st will be stiffer I guess but how much more do you think it will weigh? stainless is approx 1.5 times heavier than mild ( size for size) did you use 16g as per book?

Went for stainless to avoid corrosion and having to paint to protect - now I can weld on brackets willy-nilly

Stainless isn't 1.5 times heavier - it is approx 1.025 times heavier.

Stainless box section is metric, with a wall thickness of 1.5mm, 16g mild steel is approx 1.6mm

This means that the equivalent sections, mild steel which is 1" sq (25.4mm) and stainless steel which is 25mm sq, have cross sectional areas in the ratio ms:ss of 1.08:1.0

Hence, per unit length, the metric stainless section is lighter

QED equivalent stainless box section is lighter and stronger than mild steel
